Annotation:
The watercolour study on the reverse with the portrait of Consuelo Vanderbilt, married to the 9th Duke of Marlborough from 1895 to 1921, served as a model for the life-size portrait of the sitter, which Boldini made of her and her son, Lord Ivor Spencer-Churchill, in 1906.
