The host in the Odenwald
Oil on canvas
53 : 36 cm
Signed and dated lower right
Klaus Rohrandt: Wilhelm Trübner (1851 – 1917), Kiel 1972, No. G 267
The depiction has been entitled in the literature various times as The host in the Odenwald or A forester’s portrait. Due to the similarity to the Portrait of Georg Nieratzky (Rohrandt: No. G 270), it could be his father Wilhelm Nieratzky, who ran the Gasthaus zum Schützenhof in Erbach. In September/ October 1900 Trübner lived there with painting students.
